The 69th Annual - MCTM Institute and Conference will be held on the downtown campus of Grand Valley State University in the Eberhard Center in Grand Rapids, MI.

The Institutes begin on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, with the two day Conference following on Wednesday and Thursday, July 25-26, 2018.  We are looking forward to this exciting event and hope that you will come join us this summer.

Institute Sessions

The roster of speakers/sessions for the 2018 MCTM Institute are currently being finalized.  MCTM is pleased to welcome Sherry Parrish, author of "Number Talks: Helping Children Build Mental Math and Computation Strategies, Grades K-5" and co-author of "Number Talks: Fractions, Decimals, and Percentages".  Other institute topics are OERs (Open Educational Resources), Math Recovery (R), the coming statewide PreK-3 Early Mathematics project, the coming statewide 6-12 Literacy Essentials for Mathematics project,, and more!

Lodging and Attractions

MCTM has negotiating rates for accommodations at the Holiday Inn Grand Rapids Downtown location, just a few steps away from the conference location.  Reservations can be made by calling the hotel directly at 616-235-7611.   The hotel has guaranteed the room block through July 10, 2018.

Call for Speaker Proposals

69th MCTM Annual Conference

The Michigan Council of Teachers of Mathematics is looking for speakers to share their expertise with colleagues at the 2018 MCTM Annual Conference.We have several focus strands this year.  Do you have experiences, knowledge, and strategies you would share with colleagues in these areas: 

  • Number Talks / Math Talks
  • Math Recovery, Delta Math, other Intervention Strategies
  • Technology tools and Math (Desmos, Geogebra, handheld units, others)
  • STEM/ STEAM, including Project Lead the Way and similar programs
  • Formative Assessment Process, including Strategies and Tools
  • Meeting the needs of accelerated/ advanced students, including AP/IB Students
  • Meeting the needs of struggling students, including students with disabilities and English Learners
  • Integrating technology/ robotics/ computer science with mathematics
  • Coaches and Consultants / Professional Learning in Mathematics Teaching & Learning
  • Using OERs - Open Educational Resources for K-12 Mathematics
  • Mathematics and CTE
  • Other high-yield practices:  rich mathematical tasks, fostering a growth mindset and grit, standards-based feedback and reporting, others.

Or, would you be able to answer “yes” to any of the questions below:

  • Do you have strategies that help incorporate other academic disciplines into the mathematics curriculum?
  • Do you have expertise on how to create and implement an integrated, multi-disciplined curriculum?
  • Do you bring relevant, real world applications into the classroom?
  • Do you incorporate technology into your classroom in a way that expands students understanding of mathematics?
  • Do you have ways to leverage technology that helps improve both your students’ skills and your understanding of your students’ gaps?

Then, please consider sharing your knowledge and ideas with Michigan teachers this summer in Grand Rapids, MI at the Eberhard Center on the downtown campus of Grand Valley State University. The proposal deadline is February 28, 2018.   The online speaker proposal is now available at
This year, both the Institute and Conference will include sessions by Sherry Perrish on Number Talks and sessions on Math Recovery.  There will also be a wide variety of break-out sessions and vendor booths plus evenings activities in relaxing Grand Rapids, Michigan.
