Mission, Vision, Goals and Objectives
A mission statement encapsulates an organization’s purpose and communicates its essence to members, stakeholders, and the public. It states why the organization exists, what it seeks to accomplish, what it does to achieve this end, and the ultimate result of its work.
The Michigan Council of Teachers of Mathematics provides public voice and leadership to support and advance high quality teaching and learning of mathematics for all students.
The Michigan Council of Teachers of Mathematics is a leader and authority in mathematics education, ensuring that all students have access to the highest quality mathematics teaching and learning. We envision a world where everyone is mathematically literate, sees the value and beauty of mathematics, and is able to use mathematics with ease whether in problem solving or in modeling to support an argument.
The MCTM will collect, research and monitor information regarding, but not restricted to the following:
- Best Practices
- Learning Theory
- Legislative trends
- Work of allied organizations
- Educational Technology
- Membership view points
- Demographics including diverse student populations
The Michigan Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM) is the professional organization for Michigan mathematics educators at any grade level, pre-K through college. As an advocate for excellence in mathematics education for all students of all ages, our members also include interested community members, pre-service mathematics teachers, and retired educators.
MCTM members can be found teaching in local classrooms, serving as school building and district administrators, and working as mathematics coaches and curriculum specialists. We are teaching (and attending) college classes, working in ISDs (Intermediate School Districts), writing local and state curriculum, creating and evaluating local and state assessments, and serving in the Michigan mathematics and science centers. MCTM works closely with the Michigan Department of Education and its Division of Accountability Services (DAS) to provide guidance to their mathematics-related projects and to transmit pertinent, timely information to our members. We host an annual state-wide conference attended by dozens of speakers and hundreds of educators.
If you're not already an MCTM member, we invite you to join us by visiting our Membership page.
